Whatever the season Purbeck has something for everyone, whether they are motorists, cyclists, walkers or bird watchers. With long sandy beaches for the children, sports for the energetic, historical monuments for those who wish to explore, plus the spectacular scenery of the World Heritage Jurassic coastline there is always something to do.
Wareham, 1½ miles by road, is built on a site dating back to the Iron Age,  surrounded on 3 sides by old Saxon earth walls, with over 200 buildings of historical and architectural interest. Here there are shops to supply most requirements, together with a market on Thursdays and Saturdays. Wareham has Britain’s last remaining gas-lit Victorian cinema - The Rex, which has been fully restored. There are many good restaurants and pubs in Wareham and the surrounding villages.
Ashcroft is the perfect base to explore the many varied attractions of Purbeck.
